「移動する」|「shift」「transfer」の違いと使い方
向きが変わることもあれば、場所が変わることもある。英語の言い方を覚えておきましょう。
「移動する」|「shift」は場所や方向を少し変える
shift は場所や方向を少し変えることを表すときに使われる語。
shift は不安定や不安を暗示することがある。
ヨットで航海中。 The wind has shifted to the west. (風向きが西に変わりました)
旅行で。 I shifted my gaze to the night view in the distance. (私は視線を遠くの夜景に移しました) ※ gaze「注視」 night view「夜景」
トップスター登場。 The audience’s eyes shifted from the center to the left side of the stage. (観客の視線は舞台中央から上手に移りました) ※ the left side of the stage「上手」(日本では客席から見て舞台の右側をさすが、英米では舞台から見た方向をさすため左右が逆になる)

「移動する」|「transfer」は別な場所、仕事、乗り物などに変わる
transfer は別な場所、仕事、乗り物などに変わる、あるいは変わらせることを表すときに使われる語。
ヨーロッパの情勢変化。 The company is planning to transfer the office from London to Amsterdam. (その会社は事務所をロンドンからアムステルダムに移す計画です)
列車での旅行。 At Geneva I transferred to another train. (ジュネーブで別の列車に乗り換えました)
空港で。 Where do I transfer to an international flight? (国際線への乗り換えはどこですか）
住民運動。 The local residents launched a campaign against the transfer of the military base. (基地移転反対の住民運動が起こりました) ※ local residents「地元住民」 campaign「運動」
