最近の話題の一つに、昨今、親子の高齢化に伴い深刻さが増す「引きこもり」があります。
入試では、「引きこもり」に関する記述の一部の和文英訳の問題が出題されています。
「引きこもり」に関する基本的な表現を見ていきましょう。
試験や仕事で失敗し…
「失敗から立ち直れなくて、その恥ずかしさと苦痛から逃れるために思い切った道を選ぶ人もいます」
Some people cannot get over the sense of failure and they make an extreme decision in order to escape the shame and pain.
・get over 「～を乗り越える、～に打ち勝つ」

In most cases, they are the eldest sons in wealthy families.

・wealthy family 「裕福な家庭→恵まれた家庭」と考える
引きこもりには有効な手立てがなく…
「息子をそれ以上傷つけまいとして、家族は何もせず、結局そのような状態は続いていくのです」
Their family members do nothing about it so that those young people are not hurt any more, which consequently lets the situation continue.
