「認める」｜「allow」「let」「permit」の違いと使い方
「認める」の意味を表す英語はいくつかの語を使いわける。
「認める」｜「allow」は容認
allow は書き言葉で使われることが多く、「～してもいいことにする」という容認の意味を表す語。
タバコを吸えないところが増えている。
Smoking is not allowed in this building. （このビル内ではタバコを吸うことはできません。）
ペット禁止。
In our apartment building, we aren’t allowed to keep a dog. （このマンションでは犬を飼えない。）
ところによりこんな決まりもある。
You are not allowed to stay out overnight without permission. （無断外泊はいけない。）
※ stay out overnight「外泊する」 without permission「無断で」
働きかたについて。
Under an agreement between management and the union, overtime was allowed last month. （労使間の協定により先月は残業が認められた。）

「認める」｜「let」はしたいようにさせる
let は「したいようにさせてやる」という意味を表す語。話し言葉で最も普通に使われる語。
「let + ～ + 原形不定詞」の形で用いる。原形不定詞=toがつかない。また let は受動態は避けられる。
「～させて」というとき。
Please let me think about the matter for a little while. （その件についてもう少し考えさせてください。）
結婚式は本人の好きに。
The parents let their son have his own way as to his wedding ceremony. （その親御さんは結婚式について息子の好きにさせた。）

「認める」｜「permit」は公式に認める
permit は３つのうちでもっともかたい語で、書面、規則、決定などにより「公式に認める」ことを表す語。
多くの試験は、
You are not permitted to bring dictionaries into the examination room. （試験会場への辞書持ち込みは認められません。）
街中では、
Parking is not permitted here. （ここは駐車禁止です。）
※ 「駐車禁止」の掲示は No parking。
大きなターミナル駅で。
This platform is for those exiting the train only. No boarding permitted. （このホームは降車専用です。ご乗車はできません。）
