「明らかな」｜「evident」「apparent」の違いと使い方
目に見える証拠で「明らか」もあり、さらに推論を加えることもある。英語の言い方を覚えておきましょう。
「明らかな」｜「evident」は目に見える証拠で気づく
evident はすこしかたい感じのする語で、目に見える証拠に基づいて簡単に気づくことを表すときに使われる語。
子どもの数が、 The trend toward having fewer children is becoming increasingly evident. (少子化傾向はますます強まっています) ※ trend「傾向」
客観性欠如。 It is evident that the article has been influenced by personal feelings. (その記事が私情に左右されているのは明らかです) ※ article「記事」 personal feelings「私情」
健闘むなしく、 Though the Japanese players did well, the difference between them and the Americans was evident. (日本の選手は健闘したが、アメリカの選手との差は歴然としていました)
ある裁判で、 His innocence is evident to everybody. (彼の無実は誰の目にも明らかです) ※ innocence「無罪」
「明らかな」｜「apparent」は目に見える証拠に加えて推論を暗示
apparent もすこしかたい感じのする語で evident と同じく目に見える証拠に基づくことをいうが、その際何らかの推論が行われていることを暗示する語。
勉強不足。 It was apparent from his score that he hadn’t studied. (彼の点数から勉強しなかったことは明らかです)
外見だけで判断しないこと。 In spite of his apparent indifference, her father is actually a warm-hearted person. (彼女のお父さんは一見冷たそうですが温かい人柄です) in spite of …「～にもかかわらず」 indifference「冷淡」
居住地の区別。 In this area, residential segregation according to social class is apparent. (この地域では階層別の住み分けが見られます) ※ residential「居住に関する」 segregation「分離」 social class「社会階層」
治療の甲斐なく、 The doctor tried his best but there was no apparent curative effect. (医師は尽力したが患者に治療の効果は見られませんでした) ※ curative「治療の」 effect「効果」
